Hi Linda -

Thanks for your compliments and questions about persimmons. Basically the Fuyu can and actually should be eaten firm like an apple. It COULD be eaten soft and will be sweeter when it's soft, but you want it to be firm. I would say that a firm Fuyu isn't as sweet as a ripe Hachiya. The Fuyu isn't astringent as a Hachiya and that's why it can be eaten out of hand like an apple -- it's the sweeter of the two, but not too sweet. You could try biting into a Hachiya, but that would probably be your last. The Hachiyas are best used in baking.

Take care,
Robbie and The Sigona's Crew

Hi Robbie,
Thanks for the tips. I love fall fruits, but I'm not wild about fruit that is too sweet. Regular persimmons (the kind that have to get really really soft) have always been much too sweet for my taste. I have been told that Fuyu persimmons aren't so sweet and should be eaten when firm. In your tips I read "After about three weeks, Fuyus will soften (somewhat like the Hachiya) and will have reached their peak sweetness". Do I have to wait that long and let them get soft? They're alright to eat "unripe" aren't they - or are they as 'astringent' (or how ever you describe) regular persimmons if you eat them hard. (I enjoy bananas and pears when everyone else says they're not ripe yet.) Thanks for being part of Sigona's and providing all of us customers local and organic produce and products.

These really are the best cookies! What I love about them is how the fresh, natural ingredients make every bite seem a new and altogether fully satisfying experience. One of my favorite things about Sigona's, in addition to the availability of the freshest fruits and veggies, is the emphasis on quality, local vendors. It's what draws me weekly from my home in San Mateo to the Redwood City store.

Hi Saundra - thanks for offering advice to a fellow customer. While we do have an "oops" option for those who forget their coupon, we very much do want people to print out and bring in the coupons. We are working to secure a new system at register point so we can handle coupons digitally, but until then we ask that customers continue to bring in the coupon.

If you do get email on your phone though, you're welcome to show us the coupon that way - just one more way to save paper.

Best regards,
The Sigona's Crew

It's true! I try to save a few slices to take to lunch the next day, but sometimes the pizza proves to tempting! We're glad you love both the pizza and the cake - the pumpkin is delicious!

Take care,

Hi Nancy, you don't have to print out the coupon anymore! I have forgotten mine many times. Just ask them at the front counter when you're checking out what the gift is that week, then you just sign a paper with your name and email and you get your gift! They make it so easy. I absolutely love Sigonas! Enjoy!
